Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH/LHRH). It acts as a potent GnRH agonist that initially stimulates, then downregulates, the pituitary-gonadal axis through receptor desensitization. This leads to a dramatic reduction in luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and subsequently sex steroids. In research contexts, it is studied for its ability to reset the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis.
