SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, specifically binding to cardiolipin. It stabilizes cristae structure, enhances ATP production, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, prevents cytochrome c release and apoptosis, and protects against mitochondrial dysfunction.
