MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA. It activates AMPK (master energy regulator), increases glucose uptake and fatty acid oxidation, enhances mitochondrial respiration, translocates to the nucleus under stress to regulate gene expression, modulates mTOR and inflammatory pathways, and acts as an exercise mimetic.
