MGF is a splice variant of IGF-1 produced locally in muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress. It activates satellite cells (muscle stem cells), initiates muscle repair processes, promotes muscle protein synthesis, and enhances local muscle recovery. Unlike systemic IGF-1, MGF acts locally at the site of muscle damage.
