Mechanism of Action

Macimorelin is an orally active growth hormone secretagogue that acts as a ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) agonist. It stimulates pituitary growth hormone release by mimicking ghrelin's action on growth hormone secretagogue receptors. Unlike injectable GH secretagogues, macimorelin has excellent oral bioavailability and provides sustained GH release. It is FDA-approved as a diagnostic agent for adult growth hormone deficiency.
