Adipotide is a chimeric peptide composed of two domains: a targeting sequence (CKGGRAKDC) that binds to prohibitin on the surface of blood vessels supplying white adipose tissue, and a proapoptotic peptide (D(KLAKLAK)2) that disrupts mitochondrial membranes. This dual mechanism selectively destroys the blood supply to fat cells, inducing apoptosis specifically in white adipose tissue while sparing other tissues.
