Why Purity Matters: Impurities in peptide products can include synthesis byproducts, truncated sequences, deletion peptides, and residual solvents. These impurities can affect research outcomes and potentially cause adverse reactions. Testing Methods: HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography): The gold standard for purity assessment. HPLC separates peptide components and measures the percentage of the target peptide vs impurities. Research-grade peptides should be ≥98% purity. Mass Spectrometry: Confirms molecular identity by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio. This verifies that the peptide has the correct amino acid sequence and molecular weight. Third-Party Testing: Independent laboratory verification is crucial. Look for suppliers that provide Certificates of Analysis (CoA) from accredited third-party labs, not just in-house testing. What to Look For in a CoA: - Lot/batch number matching your product - HPLC purity percentage (≥98% for research grade) - Mass spec confirmation of molecular weight - Appearance and solubility data - Testing date and laboratory name - Endotoxin testing results (for injectable products) Red Flags: - No CoA available upon request - Generic CoAs not tied to specific batches - Purity claims below 95% for research peptides - No third-party testing offered - Prices significantly below market average
